According to Icelandic national television’s report,from September 1(Friday) on,free plastic shopping bags will become history, which makes it illegal for Icelandic retailers to give away plastic bags.
According to this record, in may this year, the Icelandic Parliament approved legislation aimed at tackling the problem of disposable plastic waste. It said that from September 1 on, giving away plastic bags will be illegal, and charges for plastic bags will be itemized on receipts together with other purchases .The ban on plastic bags includes the thin, transparent plastic bags for fruits and vegetables that most stores traditionally give away free of charge.
It also said that,from January 1,2021, it would be illegal to offer plastic bags regardless of their thickness. However, bags made from other materials can still be sold yet.
